Yogyakarta (Antaranews Jogja) - Former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) Mahfud MD held a meeting with Charismatic Ulama Leader KH Maimun Zubair at the Royal Ambarrukmo Hotel, Yogyakarta, on Sunday night to discuss the nation`s problems.

"We speak about the founding philosophies of this nation, where the strength of this nation lies, and how humans position themselves, so that Indonesia, as God`s grace, will be maintained," Mahfud informed reporters after an hour-long closed-door meeting with Zubair.

On the occasion, Mahfud revealed that during the closed-door meeting, he and Zubair did not discuss practical political issues related to the 2019 Presidential Election.

"We spoke nothing about (politics). More importantly, we speak about this nation`s problems as a whole," he noted.

According to Mahfud, Indonesia, which stands as an independent nation owing to the blessings and grace of God, must be grateful, and this position should always be maintained.

He noted that to maintain the country`s strength and position, with its different communities, the Indonesian people have, so far, determined the road ahead by choosing the path of democracy.

Hence, he believes that democracy, as a means, must also be maintained, so that it is always pursued in an honest manner.

"Must be honest and not engage in backstabbing, and everything is just a vision to move forward," he emphasized.

According to Mahfud, meetings and discussions with Zubair had been held since he was still chairman of MK.

While speaking to reporters, Zubair likened Indonesia to a household. In a household, there should not be a dispute merely due to differences, including on matters of religion.

"We must return to what God has bestowed upon this nation. Human harmony begins with what is called a household. The house has couples, so it cannot be owned by women only or belong to men only. Hence, there must be men and women," the caregiver of Al-Anwar Islamic Boarding School, Sarang, Rembang noted.
